Activities pics and video معا نحو انتخابات حرة ونزيهة Together towards free & fair elections current events Campaigning for establishment of academic library Abuhadia Society started the campaign for the academic library, the project is to mobilize individuals for in kind donation of reference books in differnt academics for the use of students, researchers and postgraduate students . the campaign for this project will continue through the media means up to end of february 2010. this is an appeal for every body , institution who might contribute in the project please contact us at abuhadia@yahoo.com Abuhadia Society participate in voters education and observation of registration process in Red Sea State The society volunteers have been trained in observation of elections and started to participate as CSO observers in the registration process , about ten volunteers participated in the registration observation covering all the Red Sea State , the NGO will conduct voters awareness training and public sessions in partnership with other actors to contribute in free and fair elections . New partnership on girls education support with Italian groups The "ACLI di Cremona" (Associazioni Cristiane Lavoratori Italiane) and the "Gruppo Lente" continued their partnership with Abuhadia Society after the first round of research and workshops on girls education successfully fulfilled ,in Swakin area the upcoming project will include Mani Tese Cremona as well and will focus on support to schools services , girls education needs, and campaign to enhance girls education in Red Sea State - Sudan Visit from Mr Erick cultural councilor of French Embassy - Khartoum Last month August the Organization honored by a visit from Mr Erick French Embassy cultural councilor as part from Eastern State visit by the Embassy. the honorable guests met Abuhadia Society executive board, staff and volunteers plus beneficiaries of the joint project in Sinkat . during the visit Erick discussed the progress in project and second report ....report two.pdf Finalization of girls education research in Swakin Research on girls education problems have recently finalized in Swakin area in Red Sea State , researcher , assistant researcher , and six data collectors undertook the work for two weeks , include questionnaire with girls of school age , group discussion with families , and teachers . this will help a lot in the next programming phase and advocacy campaigns . Training courses The Society have conducted two training courses , one on marketing and fund raising and the other on civic education , 60 participants from different civil society actors participated in those courses, the first one done in collaboration with UNDP and the other one with ACORD as part from USAID peace building project for Eastern Sudan . Closure of child rights protection project The project was mainly addressing child rights in Red Sea State, The action was focusing on fostering of rights culture among basic school education through associated set of activities enable school pupils to demonstrate the rights issues among them in the school environment and transfer it to other children and Red Sea community through accessing them to media programs through what we call child to child rights education sessions, That was coupled with in school activities like publications, theatre, and public pupil gatherings occasions, these activities will be run by school pupils associations and the source for this awareness and culture will be through awareness sessions done by specialized lecturers , and rights reference liberties established in five basic schools in the state . Another focus for this action based on progress and success achieved through previous interventions in Red Sea State in fighting and combating of FGM practice, that community attitude change initiators and early adopters of change have appeared in different communities in Red Sea, those groups need to be linked to each other, systemize their effort and maintain their actions , take their initiatives to public to lead community driven change and eventually eliminate the FGM practice in Red Sea State. so far the project implementation completed successfully and the final report have been submitted to the Donor ( EIDHR ) EU Sudan for full report follow this link EU final. report pdf Review and update for Abuhadia story book and gender manual Last month the staff volunteers and gender group held series of meetings to review and update Abuhadia story document , and include the final comments in the Society gender manual ( Maleega ) , it worth mentioning that the this activity sponsored by PACE programme (Oxfam Canada) as part from capacity building partnership between Abuhadia Society and the programme .shortly both documents will be published in this website . Achieved Activities & News New office for the Society in Port Sudan , located in Shagar Cluster , the main support for this office came from Oxfam Canada , together with other institutional and training support Peace building and conflict transformation Recently the Society have Engaged with DAI for fostering peace building and peace culture in Sinkat and Swakin localities , contract will b e signed soon and the project will b e launched in May 2007 . the project include awareness sessions about CPA and DPA with more focus on ESPA . also there will b e a component for Civic education and rights education for community key leaders. The society is preparing to form consultancy group Abuhadia Development Action Group (ADAG) to carry out consultancies in Red Sea and Eastern Sudan in particular , as way to invest in its volunteer cadre , the group will do technical, rapid , and conventional type of studies, evaluations, and environment assessments . this is call for potential volunteers who would like to contribute in this group to contact Abuhadia society for registration attached with C.V showing areas of competence.
- Prepare celebrations of the founders day The NGO in collaboration with other actors in RSS is preparing celebrations for the founders day , this is going to take place in Port Sudan during March 2007 , the celebration include his history , achievements and documentation . chairperson signed EIDHR contracts The NGO Start Education Campaign Starting from Feb 2007 the NGO will begin local fund raising in Red Sea and probably at national level to solve educational problems for poor students especially for those who are unable to pay education fees . more details will be published later this month . Visit of Netherlands Ambassador To the Society Netherlands Ambassador HE Mr : Adriaan visited the NGO and our activities in Port Sudan , Sinkat , The visit include public meeting, site visits and meeting with sister Local NGOs in Red Sea , as well as Academic institutions in the area it is worth mentioning that the embassy have funded FGM project for us in Sinkat and have provided fund for FGM network in Red Sea , Evaluation of Milky Goats Project :- To assess the follow up of the community local committees and to draw impact on the beneficiary families , the evaluation will be done by local consultant who is Professional veterinarian as well as expert in working with grassroots levels . Training of IDP women in machinery shoes making In the NGO efforts to upgrade the IDP women skills and verify their income sources , a training in shoes making should take place for drought affected IDPs living around Sinkat and Gebiet areas , the training will cover three villages funded by EU-HPP , CIDA and British embassy Khartoum. Addressing NRBC in land disputes among the Beja The NGO staff and volunteers mediate negotiation between two conflicting tribes over land in Hambokieb area between Swakin and Port Sudan , the mediation took four months in which four round of negotiations were facilitated , where both conflicting sides reached for acceptable resolution based on win - win approach . also same approach applied on Derodieb locality and 250 hictars of cultivable land has been freed from traditionally imposed abandonment as result of the conflict . Another shoes making unit operate in Gebiet Last month the society beneficiaries in Gebiet town have celebrated the opening of the second shoes making unit in Gebiet (Dalab) , training course have started and afterward women will start for market production. it worth mentioning that the capacity of the engine is reaching 500 pair /day , thirty IDP women will work in the start then gradually increase the number . the unit expected to get at least 150 families above the poverty line . International Rescue Committee (IRC) call in Red Sea For Local NGOs IRC have opened call for civil society organization in Red Sea as part from it's civil society component . 5 NGOs from Red Sea have been accepted out of 49 applied for the call . this will be followed by empowerment training for LNGOs throughout the implementation year , it's worth mentioning that a workshop have been organized by them for the accepted NGOs in project designing facilitated by IRC staff from khartoum . Support to poor school girls / strengthening course for basic education -- 40 at risk to leave education school girls have been restored to their education as result of the NGO support to them . on the other hand strengthening course for poor final level students occurred in Sinkat and Gebiet for 120 girls and 109 boys , so far the impact is encouraging. Volunteers training 87 of the NGO volunteers (50 women and 37 men ) attended qualifying courses to equip them with the bases of principles of the humanitarian work and voluntarism . Business management training 15 IDP women received basic training in small business management in Sinkat from 4 - 8 April , the training included book keeping , records, and profit accounts .
